Pylontech UP5000D 4.8kWh LiFePO4 Battery
A new-generation 48 V battery designed for easier system expansion and long-term flexibility
The Pylontech UP5000D is a 48 V lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery designed for residential and commercial solar energy storage, load-shedding backup, off-grid systems and microgrid applications. Each module provides 4.8 kWh of nominal energy and 4.56 kWh of usable energy, with a 95% Depth of Discharge that allows more stored energy to be used for everyday loads and backup power.
A major advantage of the UP5000D is its ability to support the expansion of compatible previous-generation Pylontech battery systems. It can be used with Pylontech US2000, US2000C, US3000, US3000C and UP5000 batteries, subject to Pylontech installation requirements, inverter compatibility, firmware versions and the correct mixed-model connection sequence.
This broad legacy-system compatibility gives existing Pylontech users a practical way to increase storage capacity without automatically replacing the batteries they already own. Combined with more than 8000 rated cycles, a 15-year design life and support for up to 16 batteries in one group, the UP5000D provides a flexible upgrade path for both new and existing energy-storage systems.
Important: Mixed-model compatibility must be confirmed for the complete system before installation. The inverter, battery firmware, communication settings, battery order and commissioning procedure must all support the proposed configuration.

Why UP5000D
A practical upgrade path for existing Pylontech systems
Many new battery models require customers to replace their existing batteries or build a separate battery group. The UP5000D is designed to make expansion easier by supporting mixed use with selected previous-generation Pylontech batteries.
Compatible legacy models include:
- Pylontech US2000
- Pylontech US2000C
- Pylontech US3000
- Pylontech US3000C
- Pylontech UP5000
This compatibility can allow an existing system to gain additional storage capacity without discarding functional batteries that are already installed.
Mixed-model operation is still a technical system configuration. Compatibility depends on battery firmware, inverter support, communication protocol, battery condition and the required master-battery and connection sequence.
More usable energy from every battery
Each UP5000D module provides 4.8 kWh of nominal energy and 4.56 kWh of usable energy.
Its 95% Depth of Discharge allows a larger proportion of stored energy to be used for household consumption, evening loads and backup power before recharging is required.
This can help increase solar self-consumption, reduce unnecessary grid imports and provide additional energy during load shedding or unexpected power interruptions.
Actual usable energy depends on inverter settings, configured reserve capacity, operating temperature, battery condition and the overall system design.
Strong charge and discharge performance
The UP5000D supports a normal charge/discharge current of 100 A.
Its specified higher-current performance includes:
- 105-119 A for up to 15 minutes
- 120-200 A for up to 15 seconds
This performance profile allows the battery to support sustained residential and light-commercial loads while also responding to short-duration power demands within the manufacturer’s approved operating limits.
Actual system power is determined by the inverter, battery quantity, cable sizing, protective equipment, battery temperature and Battery Management System operating limits.
Scalable low-voltage architecture
Up to 16 UP5000D batteries can be configured in one battery group.
A system using only UP5000D modules can scale from:
- 4.8 kWh nominal energy with one battery
- 38.4 kWh nominal energy with eight batteries
- 76.8 kWh nominal energy with sixteen batteries
At 95% Depth of Discharge, a 16-module UP5000D group provides a calculated usable energy capacity of 72.96 kWh.
The final supported battery quantity may be limited by the inverter, communication architecture, current requirements and approved Pylontech system design.
Long-life LiFePO4 technology
The UP5000D uses lithium iron phosphate battery chemistry, widely selected for stationary energy storage because of its thermal stability, long cycle life and dependable performance.
The battery is rated for more than 8000 cycles at 25°C under the manufacturer’s specified operating conditions. It also has a stated design life of 15 years at 25°C.
Actual battery life depends on operating temperature, Depth of Discharge, charge and discharge rate, system configuration, storage conditions and maintenance practices.
Intelligent battery monitoring and communication
An integrated Battery Management System monitors and manages important battery operating conditions to support safe and reliable operation.
RS485 and CAN communication allow the UP5000D to exchange battery status and operating information with compatible inverters and energy-management systems.
Correct communication enables coordinated charging, discharging, monitoring and system protection. The inverter firmware, communication protocol and cable pin configuration must be confirmed before commissioning.
Compact rack-mountable design
The UP5000D uses a compact module format measuring 442 x 420 x 161 mm and weighing 39.7 kg.
Its rack-mountable design makes it suitable for organised residential battery installations, equipment rooms, server-style battery racks and multi-battery cabinets.
The modular construction also supports staged expansion, easier service access and more efficient use of installation space.
Designed for backup and off-grid applications
Pylontech positions the UP5000D for backup power, off-grid systems and microgrid projects.
Its low-voltage architecture, high usable capacity and modular configuration make it suitable for applications where dependable stored energy and future expansion are important considerations.
The final system must still be designed around the inverter output, expected loads, backup duration, available solar generation and charging capacity.
Protected indoor installation
The UP5000D has an IP20 enclosure rating and must be installed indoors or inside a suitable protective battery enclosure.
The installation location must protect the battery from rain, moisture, condensation, conductive dust, corrosive substances, direct heat sources and physical damage.
The battery must not be treated as a weatherproof outdoor product.

Mixed-model installation requirements
The ability to combine the UP5000D with selected previous-generation batteries is a major product advantage, but mixed-model installation must be planned and commissioned correctly.
Before combining different Pylontech battery models, the installer must confirm:
- Compatibility between all proposed battery models
- Compatibility with the selected inverter
- Required battery firmware versions
- Inverter firmware and battery protocol support
- CAN or RS485 communication settings
- Required master-battery model and position
- Correct battery connection sequence
- DIP-switch and addressing requirements
- Maximum permitted battery quantity
- Battery cable and overcurrent-protection sizing
- Condition and State of Health of the existing batteries
- Required commissioning and balancing procedure
Do not connect different battery models based only on their nominal voltage. An incorrect connection sequence, unsupported firmware combination or incompatible inverter configuration can prevent communication or cause incorrect system operation.
Installation and commissioning must be completed by a qualified solar or electrical installer following the latest Pylontech instructions.
